Steps to Apply

Step 1

Review the Requirements

Before applying, ensure you meet the following criteria:

Age: 18 years old on your first day of work, typically June 1st.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Physical Capability: Ability to perform the essential functions of the trade.
Valid driver’s license

Step 2

Gather Necessary Documents

Final high school transcript or high school equivalency diploma (TASC or GED).
For veterans: submit copy of your DD214.
Additional supporting documents (optional but beneficial):
- Certifications or specialized training records
- Resume
- Letters of recommendation

Step 3

Complete Online Application

Fill out and submit the online application form.
Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email.

Step 4

Interview Process

Our Training Coordinator will reach out to you to schedule a test.

Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview with a subcommittee of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC).
Next test date:
- Decatur IL March 21, 2026
- Champaign IL March 28, 2026

Step 5

Ranking and Acceptance

After the interview, applicants are placed on a ranked list based on test, interview, and documentation score.
Rankings are accessible the month following your interview.
Accepted candidates will be notified via phone.
